Looking through “The Dig” Netflix /No Spoiler/

“Inferno” William Draper 1944

Well, when it comes to talk about World Wars, it is inexorably apparent that we think about death, blood and of course guns. And it is almost foreseeable to say that wartimes would seem very peculiar to anyone if it is quite peaceful and not to mention about the conflicts between the sides. This is because most films we see nowadays, inevitably accentuate the fact that the war is excruciating, somewhat somber in a way of daily life. Of course, it is true in a fundamental basis, we suffer, we sorrow the ones we lost. However, quite naturally we have to reminisce the simple mentality during those harsh times, it is mostly probable that only ones who knew sure about that the war was coming were generals, military arms or at least officers: we mundane citizens of the country had no imminent thought of upcoming war except glimpsing through those propagandas on the newspaper, we were simply living through our lives; so can we consider about something else while we are at a wartime?

It is not our fault to dislike over archaic topics such as archeology, paleontology, or chronology. I am definite that most of the people who are reading those words are not fully aware of what those words really mean or what is so interesting about it. As a matter of fact, we should not try, should not try to like nor even try to understand. It is like trying a food, you do not restrain yourself to favor one food, you simply try the food by somehow and if you like it you try again, well on the other hand, if you hate it you do not eat it again. Although, we can try it and know if we really like it or not, rather than just seeing it from shallow surface. Humans are predictable, in terms of taste and in their rational favors. I just wanted to remind that we can see for ourselves “what is really is?”

Yeah, sub-topic of this film is about archeology, archaic/ancient+logos which literally means a study of “ancients,” however in this field we usually encompass the material culture.

Isn’t it interesting? Narrating the main concept on very old study, especially on archeology during the wartime, changes the trail of other wartime films such as Pearl Harbor, Hacksaw Ridge, Greyhound or whatever other war themed films. The narration of the story makes the film so precious that we feel like it is one and only and therefore we could miss one-time opportunity. Even though, we should not limit our sights believing that this film is only about dirt and digging, it is dramatically depressing.

I felt like all these concepts — of interpreting the relationship between the characters with archeology or wartime — are mere superficial charms that directors aim to persuade the audiences, because if you could see the origin of those few characters that seemingly distressful through out the story, you realize to question yourself “wait a sec, was it about studying rocks and dusts or even understanding about the war itself?”

Only one thing that I personally found it admirable is that, this made me more confident to believe that how humans are so emotional, in terms of real life (even though they seem awfully pessimistic about their concurrency of life.)

“The Graham Norton Show” Ralph Fiennes 2016

Might you get interested about the cast: As most “humans” know of Lord Voldemort from the Wizarding World aka Ralph Fiennes, he once upon put a step on this beautiful scenes. And others including; Carey Mulligan from “The Great Gatsby,” Lily James from “Darkest Hour,” “Cinderella” casted as a wonderful women in the context.

“The Dig” Netflix 2021

I could give you only one glimpse to the story:

Humans are infinite resource of emotional archeology.

You have the wheel to navigate to that thorough source or derail from that very path! Feel free to watch it from Netflix.

📝 My Score: 8/10
